About bin collections in York
City of York Council collects waste from approximately 85,000 households across the city of York, including the city centre, Acomb, Fulford, Heworth, Skelton, Strensall and surrounding villages. Collections are managed directly by the council. Full service information is at york.gov.uk/bins.
Most properties receive two kerbside services. The grey wheelie bin collects general household waste fortnightly. The black box collects mixed recycling (paper, card, plastics, glass, tins and cans) also fortnightly on the alternate week. A green food caddy is collected every week.
