The London Borough of Camden manages household waste and recycling collections across one of central London's most vibrant and diverse boroughs, covering areas including Camden Town, Kentish Town, Hampstead, Belsize Park, Highgate, West Hampstead, Kilburn, Swiss Cottage, Bloomsbury, Holborn and Covent Garden. Collections are operated by Veolia on behalf of the council.
Camden provides weekly kerbside collections for both rubbish and recycling, collected on the same day each week. The black wheelie bin is for non-recyclable household rubbish that cannot go in any other bin — bagging waste before placing it in the bin is recommended. The large green plastic bin or box is for household recycling and accepts a wide range of materials including paper, cardboard, glass bottles and jars, metal food and drink cans, and plastic bottles and rigid plastics. Both the rubbish and recycling bins are collected every week on the same day.
A garden waste subscription service is available for properties with a garden. If you subscribe, a brown bin will be provided and collected fortnightly. The brown bin accepts grass cuttings, leaves, hedge trimmings, prunings, weeds, flowers and small branches. Garden waste does not appear on your collection schedule unless you have an active subscription — contact Camden Council to sign up.
Food waste collections are not currently available across all Camden properties. Check the Camden Council website for the latest information on food waste services in your area.
Collection days vary by street. Most properties have collections on a weekday, but your specific day depends on your address and collection round. Properties in the same postcode can have different collection days, so always check using your full postcode.
Camden covers postcodes in the NW1, NW3, NW5, NW6, WC1 and WC2 areas, as well as parts of N6, N7 and surrounding postcode districts. Properties on the borough boundary may fall within neighbouring councils including Barnet, Islington, Westminster, Brent or Haringey.
Bins and boxes should be placed at the kerbside before 7am on your collection day and brought back in before the end of the day. Camden Council collects on all bank holidays except Christmas Day and New Year's Day — if your collection day falls on one of these, your collection will be rescheduled.
