Newport City Council Bin Collection Dates

Newport City Council (Cyngor Dinas Casnewydd) operates a weekly kerbside recycling service alongside fortnightly collections for general household waste. The recycling system is bag-based: residents put cans, plastic bottles and food tins into red bags, and paper and cardboard into blue bags — no sorting into different bins required. Clothing and textiles can be left out in clear bags on the same day.

General household waste goes in the large black 180-litre wheelie bin, collected fortnightly. A seasonal garden waste service runs from March to November for households that subscribe — collections are fortnightly using a green bin with an orange lid. Purple sacks for nappy and clinical hygiene waste are available on subscription for households with an eligible need.

Newport does not delay collections on most bank holidays; the council aims to maintain its normal schedule, though the Christmas and New Year period may differ — always check Newport's online collection calendar for your specific address. Missed collections should be reported to Newport City Council within 24 hours via the council website or by calling the contact centre. Newport's Household Waste Recycling Centre is located at Docks Way, Newport, NP20 2WN, and is open seven days a week for items not collected at the kerbside, including bulky waste, electricals, paint, wood and garden waste outside the subscription season.
