Newport City Council (Cyngor Dinas Casnewydd) operates a weekly kerbside recycling service alongside fortnightly collections for general household waste. The recycling system is bag-based: residents put cans, plastic bottles and food tins into red bags, and paper and cardboard into blue bags — no sorting into different bins required. Clothing and textiles can be left out in clear bags on the same day. General household waste goes in the large black 180-litre wheelie bin, collected fortnightly. A seasonal garden waste service runs from March to November for households that subscribe — collections are fortnightly using a green bin with an orange lid. Purple sacks for nappy and clinical hygiene waste are available on subscription for households with an eligible need.
