Manchester City Council collects waste from around 210,000 households across the city. Collections are managed directly by the council. Bins should be presented from 6pm the evening before your collection day. Full service information is at manchester.gov.uk/bins.
Most properties receive a weekly black bin collection for general household waste — items that cannot be recycled. Recycling is split across two separate fortnightly bins that alternate each week, so a recycling collection arrives every week. The brown bin accepts glass bottles and jars, food and drink cans and tins, plastic bottles, pots, tubs and trays, and food and drink cartons. The blue bin accepts paper, newspapers, magazines, envelopes, and cardboard, collected on alternate fortnights to the brown bin. In some areas of the city a green bin is also provided for combined food and garden waste, though this service is not available at all properties.
