Sheffield City Council Bin Collection Dates

Sheffield City Council, working with waste contractor Veolia, provides kerbside collections to around 240,000 households across the city. Sheffield runs a three-stream recycling system that splits recyclable materials across two separate bins collected on alternate months, meaning a recycling collection arrives every two weeks. The black wheelie bin is collected fortnightly for general household waste — non-recyclable items that cannot go in the recycling or garden bins. The brown bin is collected monthly and accepts glass bottles and jars, food tins, drink cans, aerosols, plastic bottles, tubs, trays and pots, and food and drink cartons — rinse containers before putting them out. The blue bin is also collected monthly, on alternate months to the brown bin, and accepts paper, newspapers, magazines, envelopes, cardboard and cardboard packaging — flatten cardboard and remove any plastic film. A green bin garden waste service is available on a paid subscription for grass clippings, leaves, plants, flowers, hedge trimmings and small branches, collected fortnightly during the growing season.

Sheffield has two Household Waste Recycling Centres: Blackstock Road HWRC (S14 1AB) and Soughall Road HWRC (S9 1AT). Both accept bulky waste, electricals, batteries, paint, wood, garden waste, and other materials not taken at the kerbside. Check opening hours at sheffield.gov.uk before visiting.
