Kirklees Council Bin Collection Dates

Kirklees Council collects household waste across a metropolitan borough stretching from the industrial towns of Dewsbury, Batley and Heckmondwike in the east to the Pennine valleys of Holmfirth and Slaithwaite in the west, with Huddersfield at its centre. Grey wheelie bins are used for general household waste — non-recyclable material that cannot be composted or reused. Green wheelie bins take all mixed dry recycling in one container: paper, card, plastic bottles and containers, glass bottles and jars, metal cans and aerosols — no need to separate materials. Collections alternate fortnightly, so the grey bin and green bin are never collected in the same week. Note that Kirklees uses grey bins for general waste and green bins for recycling — the reverse of some neighbouring councils. If you have recently moved from a nearby area, double-check which bin to put out each week. Brown bins are available for garden waste as an optional subscription service. Garden waste collections run fortnightly for most of the year, with a winter break — visit kirklees.gov.uk to check the current seasonal dates and to subscribe. Kirklees Council does not collect on bank holidays. If your collection day falls on a bank holiday, it is normally delayed by one working day for the rest of that week.
