Bradford Council collects household waste and recycling across the Bradford Metropolitan District, covering Bradford city, Keighley, Shipley, Bingley, Ilkley and the surrounding towns and villages. Collections follow a fortnightly rolling schedule that alternates general waste and recycling, so most properties receive a collection every week. Bradford uses a distinctive colour scheme compared to many UK councils. The green bin is for general household waste — non-recyclable items that cannot go in any other bin. Collection days vary significantly across the Bradford district. A property in Keighley may have a completely different collection day from a property in Shipley or Bradford city centre. The Bradford Metropolitan District covers postcodes from BD1 in the city centre to BD22 in the Haworth and Oxenhope area, as well as LS29 covering Ilkley and Addingham. Only properties within the Bradford Metropolitan District boundary are served. Bradford Council advises all residents to have their bins out by 6am on collection day, as collections can take place at any time.
