Cheshire East Council Bin Collection Dates

Cheshire East Council collects waste across a large unitary authority covering Crewe, Macclesfield, Congleton, Wilmslow, Knutsford, Sandbach, Nantwich and Alsager, serving around 190,000 households. Collections operate on a weekly alternating schedule. In the first week, the black bin is collected — this is for general household waste that cannot be recycled, including nappies, polystyrene packaging, crisp packets, broken crockery and other non-recyclable materials. Do not overfill the bin: the lid must close fully for the crew to collect it. In the second week, the silver bin is collected — this accepts mixed dry recycling including paper, cardboard, plastic bottles and containers, glass bottles and jars, food tins, drinks cans and aerosols. Items should be clean and empty. Lids and bottle tops can be placed inside the containers before recycling. Do not bag your recycling; loose items only. Garden waste is collected in a brown bin as part of an annual paid subscription. The service runs year-round on a fortnightly basis and accepts grass cuttings, leaves, hedge trimmings, twigs and small branches. Food waste must not go in the garden bin. Collections do not take place on bank holidays. If your scheduled day falls on a bank holiday, it moves forward by one working day for the rest of that week. An amended schedule for Christmas and New Year is published on the council website each December.
