About bin collections in Lambeth Council

Lambeth Council serves approximately 130,000 households across inner south London, covering Brixton, Clapham, Streatham, Stockwell, Waterloo, Kennington, Herne Hill and West Norwood. General waste, recycling and food waste are all collected on the same day each week — bins should be at the kerb by 7am on your collection day. Full service information is at lambeth.gov.uk/bins.

The black bin is for non-recyclable household waste collected weekly. The blue recycling bin accepts paper, cardboard, glass bottles and jars, food tins, drink cans, plastic bottles, pots, tubs and trays — rinse containers before recycling; shredded paper should go in a sealed bag. There is no separate glass box in Lambeth — glass goes in the blue bin. The food caddy is collected weekly for all cooked and uncooked food waste: meat, fish, dairy, fruit and vegetable peelings and tea bags. Compostable caddy liners are available free from Lambeth libraries and service points.

Garden waste (green bin) is collected fortnightly under a paid annual subscription. Only subscribed properties receive garden waste collections. If your bin is missed, report it within 24 hours by calling 020 7926 9000 or online at lambeth.gov.uk/bins. Bank holiday schedules are published in advance at lambeth.gov.uk/bins.

Lambeth does not operate its own Household Waste Recycling Centre. The nearest sites are Smugglers Way HWRC, Wandsworth, SW18 1EG (open daily) and Old Kent Road HWRC, Southwark.
