Leicester City Council Bin Collection Dates

Leicester City Council collects household refuse and recycling every week — making it one of a small number of UK cities offering weekly collections for both streams. Collections are managed by Biffa under contract to the council, serving around 150,000 households across the city. The black bin takes all non-recyclable household waste: food-contaminated packaging, polystyrene, nappies, and anything that cannot go in the recycling bin. The lid should close completely — overfull bins may be left uncollected. The blue bin accepts mixed recycling including paper, cardboard, glass bottles and jars, plastic bottles and containers, food and drink cans, and aerosols. All items should be rinsed clean. Place items loose in the bin — do not bag your recycling. Garden waste is collected on a separate subscription basis in the brown bin. Grass clippings, leaves, hedge trimmings, and small branches are accepted. Soil, rubble, cooked food, and plastic bags must not go in the brown bin. Collections do not run on bank holidays. If your collection day falls on a bank holiday, check the council website for the revised schedule — collections are usually brought forward or delayed by one day.
