Manchester City Council Bin Collection Dates

Manchester City Council collects waste from around 210,000 households across the city. Most properties receive a weekly black wheelie bin collection for general household waste — items that cannot be recycled — typically collected on a set day each week that varies by street. Recycling is divided across two separate fortnightly bins collected on alternate weeks: a brown bin for glass bottles and jars, cans and tins, plastic bottles, pots, tubs and trays, and food and drink cartons; and a blue bin for paper, newspapers, magazines, envelopes, and cardboard. Together the two recycling bins mean a recycling collection arrives every week alongside the regular black bin. In some areas of the city a green bin is also provided for combined food and garden waste, though this service is not available at every property. Residents can check their exact collection day and which week each bin is due using their postcode on the Manchester City Council website. Bank holiday collections may be rescheduled — the council publishes revised dates online, and affected collections are typically moved to the next working day. Missed collections should be reported within 24 hours by calling 0161 234 5000 or via the council website. Manchester's Household Waste Recycling Centre is located at Longley Lane, Northenden, Manchester, M22 4RR, open seven days a week for bulky waste, electricals, paint, wood, garden waste, and other materials not collected at the kerbside.
