Sefton Council Bin Collection Dates

Sefton Council collects household waste from approximately 120,000 homes across the metropolitan borough, covering Southport, Bootle, Crosby, Formby and Maghull. General household waste — non-recyclable items that cannot be placed in the recycling bin — is collected in the grey 240-litre wheelie bin on a fortnightly basis. Acceptable items include non-recyclable packaging, personal hygiene products and other household residuals. Do not place recyclable materials, food waste, garden waste or liquids in the grey bin. The brown recycling bin is collected fortnightly, generally on a different day of the week to the grey bin. It accepts plastic bottles, pots, tubs and trays, glass bottles and jars, metal cans, aerosols, foil, cardboard and paper. All items should be rinsed clean before recycling. Flatten cardboard boxes to save space. Food waste and garden waste collection services are available in some areas of Sefton — check your collection schedule to see which services apply to your address. Garden waste is typically a subscription service running from spring through to autumn. If your bin is missed, report it within two days using the online tool at sefton.gov.uk or call 0345 140 0845. Bins should be placed at the kerbside by 7 am on your collection day. Household Waste Recycling Centres in Sefton are operated by Merseyside Waste Disposal Authority, with sites at Formby, Netherton and Southport.
