Sheffield City Council Bin Collection Dates

Enter your postcode to find your next bin collection date in Sheffield City Council.

Sheffield City Council, working with waste contractor Veolia, collects from around 240,000 households across the city. Sheffield operates a three-stream recycling system that splits recyclable materials across two separate bins collected on alternate months. The black wheelie bin is collected fortnightly and is for general household waste — items that cannot be recycled, composted, or reused. The brown bin is collected monthly and accepts glass bottles and jars, food tins and drink cans, plastic bottles, tubs, trays and pots, and food and drink cartons. The blue bin is also collected monthly on alternate months to the brown bin, and accepts paper, newspapers, magazines, envelopes, cardboard and cardboard packaging. Together the brown and blue bins mean a recycling collection occurs every two weeks. A green bin garden waste service is available on a subscription basis for grass clippings, leaves, plants, and small branches, collected fortnightly during the growing season. Residents can check their exact collection days and which weeks each bin is due using their postcode on the Sheffield City Council website. Bank holiday collections may be rescheduled — Sheffield City Council publishes revised schedules at sheffield.gov.uk ahead of bank holidays. Missed collections should be reported within 24 hours by calling 0114 273 4567 or via the council website. Sheffield has two Household Waste Recycling Centres: Blackstock Road HWRC (S14 1AB) and Soughall Road HWRC (S9 1AT), both open for bulky waste, electricals, paint, wood, garden waste, and other materials not collected at the kerbside.

Collection frequency: General waste (black bin): fortnightly. Recycling (brown bin): monthly. Paper & card (blue bin): monthly, alternate months to brown. Garden waste (green bin): fortnightly, subscription.
