Stockport Council operates a four-bin collection system for approximately 130,000 households across the metropolitan borough, covering Stockport town, Cheadle, Bramhall, Marple, Hazel Grove, Romiley and Reddish.
Collections are arranged in two fortnightly pairs on alternate weeks. In week A, your black bin (non-recyclable waste) and green bin (food and garden waste) are collected on the same day. In week B on the alternate fortnight, your blue bin (paper, cardboard and cartons) and brown bin (glass, plastics, tins, cans and aerosols) are collected together.
The black bin should contain only waste that cannot be recycled or composted. The green bin accepts both garden waste — grass clippings, leaves, twigs and plant material — and food waste placed in a sealed bag. All food types are accepted. The blue bin takes paper, cardboard, magazines, newspapers and beverage cartons. The brown bin accepts plastic bottles, pots, tubs and trays, glass bottles and jars, food and drink tins, cans and aerosols.
If your bin is not collected, report it online at stockport.gov.uk or call 0161 217 6111. Bins should be placed at the kerbside by 7 am on your collection day.
Household Waste Recycling Centres are located at Adswood Road, Stockport and Pepper Street, Marple — check the council website for current opening hours.
Collection frequency: Fortnightly. Black and green bins collected on the same week; blue and brown bins on the alternate week.
