Winchester City Council Bin Collection Dates

Winchester City Council's bin collections are operated by Biffa under contract. Most households have four collections: a black wheelie bin for general non-recyclable waste collected fortnightly; a green wheelie bin for mixed recycling — paper, cardboard, plastic bottles and containers, cans, and cartons — collected fortnightly on alternate weeks to the black bin; a black glass box for glass bottles and jars only, collected every four weeks; and a small silver food caddy for kitchen food scraps, collected weekly. A brown wheelie bin garden waste service is available by subscription and runs fortnightly throughout most of the year. Winchester uses alternating-week scheduling, meaning your black bin and green bin weeks never fall on the same date — the council's online bin checker at winchester.gov.uk will show your exact calendar. If your collection is missed, report it within 24 hours by calling 0300 300 0013 or emailing customerservice@winchester.gov.uk. Bank holidays may shift collections by one day — check the Winchester website before putting bins out. Bulky waste and items not collected at the kerbside can be taken to Barfield Road Household Waste Recycling Centre, Winnall, Winchester SO23 0NP, which is managed by Hampshire County Council and open seven days a week.
