About bin collections in Wirral Council
Wirral Council collects waste and recycling from approximately 145,000 households across the Wirral Peninsula, covering Birkenhead, Wallasey, Bebington, Heswall, West Kirby, Ellesmere Port and surrounding areas. Wirral operates an unusual alternate-weekly system — the green bin for general waste and grey bin for recycling are never collected on the same week, but together they mean a bin is collected every week. The green bin accepts bagged non-recyclable household waste. The grey bin accepts paper and card (flattened), glass bottles and jars, aluminium and steel cans, and plastic bottles, pots, tubs and trays — items should be clean, dry and loose, not bagged. A brown bin for garden waste is available by paid subscription, collected fortnightly from spring to autumn. Wirral does not currently operate a kerbside food waste collection.
