Sunderland City Council Bin Collection Dates

Sunderland City Council collects general waste and recycling fortnightly from approximately 130,000 households across the city, including Sunderland, Washington, Houghton le Spring, Hetton, Silksworth, Ryhope and Seaham. Collections alternate weekly — your green general waste bin and blue recycling bin are never collected on the same day. Use the postcode search below to find your exact schedule. The blue recycling bin accepts paper and cardboard, glass bottles and jars, plastic bottles, tubs and trays, food tins and drink cans, and aluminium foil. Please rinse items and place them loose in the bin — no bags. Garden waste is collected as a paid subscription service, typically running from March to November. The brown garden bin accepts grass cuttings, leaves, hedge trimmings, weeds and small branches. Visit sunderland.gov.uk to subscribe or check your subscription status. If your bin is missed, report it within 24 hours at sunderland.gov.uk. Bins must be placed at the kerbside by 7 am on your collection day.
